Learning about Universal Design for Learning

The UDL is based on the CAST's research that takes to account the diversity of learners rather it be a handicap, learning disability, behavior problems or lack of interest. We all have taught a child or children that fit one of these catagories. As teachers our greatest challenges is that we must create lessons that meet all these needs. UDL has conducted brain research to suggest that our learning is as unique as our fingerprints. Generally, educators separated learning styles into auditory, tactile/kinesthetic and visual learners. The UDL wants to take it a step further suggesting that learning is broken up into 3 kinds of brain networks:
Recognize networks the what of learning
Strategic Networks the how of learning
Affective Networks the why of learning
UDL principals help customize multiple means of representation (give learners various ways to acquiring knowledge), means of expressions (various ways of demonstration of what they have learned) , means of engagement (various interest). This information definitely makes a difference when it come to taking multilple intelligences to a deeper level. I found a really great podcast I want to revisit in more detail.
